Have you tested positive for SARS-CoV-2?

Have you been informed that you have tested positive for infection with SARS-CoV-2? If so, this results in immediate consequences and obligations for you.

Your obligations:

If you have a positive PCR test and other methods of nucleic acid amplification technique

  • Go home or to other suitable accommodation immediately and without detours even you do not receive special instructions from your health authority.
  • You must remain in isolation there for 14 days, i.e. remain there permanently, avoid contact with other people including your own household as far as possible and may not receive any visitors. The 14-day period starts from the time the swab is carried out (self-isolation).

  • It is also best to inform your contact persons and your employer that you have received a positive test result.
  • If you notice typical symptoms of a SARS-CoV-2 infection (fever, dry cough, loss of sense of smell and taste, etc.) within 14 days of receiving the test results, contact your responsible health authority immediately and telephone your doctor.
  • All other people living in your household must isolate themselves as well. The only exceptions are urgent and urgent errands that cannot be postponed, in particular those covering daily needs. This household quarantine does not apply to vaccinated and recovered persons (§ 2 COVID-19 protective measures exemption regulation) in your own household. Household members showing symptoms of COVID-19 must be tested immediately for SARS-CoV-2 infection. For household members, quarantine ends ten days after receipt of the infected person's test result.

In case of a positive antigen test (professional or for self-testing)

  • Go home or to other suitable accommodation immediately and without detours even you do not receive special instructions from your health authority.
  • Arrange for a PCR test or other test using nucleic acid detection to be carried out immediately and free of charge. Test appointments can be made by calling 116 117 or by phoning the doctor treating you. You can find corresponding test sites at www.corona-test-hessen.de. You must isolate yourself at least until you receive the result of this PCR test or the nucleic acid detection, i.e. stay at home or in your accommodation at all times (except for a direct journey to a test appointment), avoid contact with other people including your own household as far as possible, and may not receive any visitors. The 14-day period starts from the time the first swab test is carried out (self-quarantine).
  • Failure to comply with the quarantine obligation can result in a fine of up to € 25,000. Criminal prosecution is also possible.

Your rights:

  • If you are an employee or self-employed, you may be entitled to compensation for loss of earnings. This requires appropriate verification of the (positive) test result, i.e. certification from an official testing centre. After a positive test result from self-testing, you need the (positive or negative) result of a PCR test performed subsequently by means of nucleic acid detection for this. In the case of employees, the compensation is paid by the employer to the amount of your net earnings. Your employer will be reimbursed in accordance with § 56 IfSG. Self-employed persons receive a direct payment. Appropriate applications must be submitted at ifsg-online.de.
  • You are entitled to a free PCR test or other test with nucleic acid detection after a positive antigen test. You can make Fehler! If the PCR test carried out after a positive antigen test or another test carried out with nucleic acid detection is negative you are automatically released from quarantine on receipt of the test result.
  • After a positive PCR test or nucleic acid detection, you are entitled to a variant-specific PCR test if there is reasonable ground to suspect the presence of a specific viral variant.
